The unique characteristic of Coulter Pines is the giant cones which are 20 to 40 centimetres (7.9 to 15.7 inches) long, and weigh up to 5 kilograms (11 pounds ) when fresh. Be careful, when you hike under the trees, since the cones all also known as "widowmakers". With that size and weight, the cones can easily kill a human.
