A wonderful shop—there's so much to look at (and buy). The farmer's ice cream is delicious, but the ice cream freezer is a bit hidden. 🍦

The village has been a recognized holiday resort since 1995. The name Oevenum (Frisian: Ööwenem) originates from the Old Frisian name Ove (Uwe) with the ending nem and means "Ove's settlement." The typical 🏘 village appearance is well preserved, partly due to the stylistically correct renovation of many houses. In 1796, 23 houses in the neighboring village of Nieblum were destroyed by a 🔥 fire, so a 🔔bell was installed on the roof of the schoolhouse 🏫 in Oevenum to warn residents in the event of a fire. Built in 1707, the old schoolhouse in Oevenum on the village square was still used as such until 1956. Today it serves as a residential building, but its distinctive, elongated building still makes it recognizable as a former school. The bell in the attic was restored in 1988 and now only rings in the event of the death of a villager. In 1882, Germany's first 🚒👩🚒 youth fire brigade was founded in Oevenum. This makes the Oevenum Youth Fire Brigade
