The copper hammer, built around 1534/37 and now known as the old hammer, is located outside and to the east of the smelting wall that has been preserved in this area. In the years 1958-1960, the technical equipment of the hammer was repaired using equipment from the new hammer. The technical equipment consists of three tail hammers driven by a water wheel via a camshaft. A second water wheel operates the bellows via rods. The wheel rooms are located on the east side of the building. Immediately above the forge fire is the old hammer's distinctive forge, which is up to the ridge and has a crown. The hammer was used until 1914 to produce copper sheets and process them into everyday objects, including bowls and kettles of various kinds. Since its restoration in 1960, it has been used as a museum display facility. The Saigerhütte monument complex is one of the most remarkable European sites for the history of metallurgy and is inextricably linked to silver mining in the Ore Mountains. On the occasion of Georgius Agricola's 500th birthday, an exhibition on the history of the Saigerhütte was opened in 1994 at the suggestion of Dr. Hanns-Heinz Kasper. The Saigerhütte Grünthal is a unique monument area and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Erzgebirge Mining Region. The Saigerhütte Museum tells you what makes the Saigerhütte so special. The ticket office is in the building "In der Hütte 2" - right next to the west gate. (https://www.olbernhau.de/museum-saigerhuette-gruenthal )
