Le Port de Limeuil Campsite

Highlight • Mountain Hut

A very nice campsite, right on the Dordogne and opposite Limeuil. You can't get enough of the view. And it's a stone's throw by bike (and even on foot) to the small, romantic town of Limeuil, which is stuck like a bird's nest in the Dordogne cliffs. It is best to walk up the steep little alley into town. There are some good restaurants along the way and at the top of the castle there is a beautiful park with many surprises for children (participatory information) and from where you have a wonderful view of the confluence of the Vezere and Dordogne and the two bridges arranged at right angles. Now in the pre-season in June there is not so much going on.

Limeuil is rightly said to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. Walking through the narrow streets, you feel as if you have been transported back centuries. The houses with their quarry stone walls are mostly in good condition.

On an area of 8 hectares you can embark on a journey through time to the turn of the century around 1900 in this park - in German-speaking countries we would use the term "open-air museum". In the prospectus it says about the presentation of the system: "Our village transports you to the Périgord of the 20th century, a time when work in the field, traditions, simple pleasures and the precious gestures of artisans made up a whole art of living. Here this life has not stopped and is at any time of the year in full swing.Old rides, forgotten trades, farm animals, villagers and a multitude of objects, machines, machines, toys and tools that have survived the century tell us of the charm of yesteryear. As a nice addition: our park leaves with joy and Fun reliving the daily lives of our ancestors, a promise of memories for the elderly and great discoveries for the youngest!" The “Ancre de Salut” in Limeuil is a great place to stop for a drink on the bank of the Dordogne with a view of both bridges. Decent food too.
