Karlstad is conveniently located between Oslo, Stockholm and Gothenburg. Located on the shores of Lake Vänern, the city and its region enjoy a fairly sunny climate. The city has an important commercial port making it Sweden's third economic port. The city is now turning to new technologies. It was almost completely destroyed in 1865 by a terrible fire which left only a few buildings. This explains the large avenues and the many buildings dating from the time of its reconstruction. You will find many works of art including the Sola statue, one of the symbols of the city.

This place is a popular bathing area closed from the city. You'll find nice rocks, sandy beaches and grassy areas for playing and sunbathing. There is a large beach by the main parking lot that is shallow – perfect for small children or for swimmers lovers. Skutberget is very easy to access. You can easily get down to the water with the help of a ramp.

A waterfront restaurant housed in a former rail depot, Café Freja served up a nice selection of traditional Swedish fair. We'd recommend the open-face meatball and beetroot sandwich. Top tip: The toilets on the steam train.
