The palace was built by the superintendent Diogo Inácio de Pina Manique (1733-1805), who held several positions during the time of the Marquis of Pombal. His connection to the town, which came to be called Manique do Intendente and was initially called Alcoentrinho, and which belonged to the Order of Christ, dates back to the time of his uncle, who established a manor in favor of his nephew in 1773. Thus began a very ambitious project, which envisaged the creation of a town with a rationalist architectural design and which included, in addition to the palace (whose construction remained unfinished), the Town Hall, the pillory, the Palace of Justice and the church. This plan did not go ahead due to Pina Manique's removal from the position of superintendent and his premature death.

Natural viewpoint over the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros. Very well-kept place, headquarters of the Terra Chã Cooperative created with a view to local development in the village of Chãos, located in the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park. Highlight is the excellent panoramic restaurant, which is part of Cooperativa Terra Chã. The space has a parking lot, including for motorhomes and a public toilet.

Salir do Porto has a river beach, on the bank of the Tornada River, which flows into the bay of São Martinho do Porto. Salir beach is famous for its sand dune about 50 meters high. Once the largest in Europe, the Salir Dune stands out in the dune landscape of São Martinho Bay. The core of the Dune is partly made up of red sandstone, a vestige of an older dune – a fossil dune. There are other rock beaches in the coastal area that are locally called Quebradas. It was in the Ruins of the artisanal Customs House of Salir that the caravels that participated in the discoveries and conquests were built during the reigns of D. Afonso V and D. João II. The extinct parish was made up of the towns of Salir do Porto, Casais de Salir do Porto and Bouro.
