The church was built around 1197 and is the oldest building in the town. Particularly worth seeing are the Gothic winged altarpiece (around 1470) and the medieval works of art inside. It is dedicated to Saint Servatius of Tongeren (†384), one of the "Ice Saints." The name "Servatius" comes from the Latin servare = "to preserve, to save" – Servatius therefore means "the preserver."

The church was built from hewn stone between 1227 and 1240. The original round tower was replaced by a square one made of bricks between 1811 and 1813. There are many gems to discover inside the simple church, the most striking of which is certainly the carved winged altar from around 1500.
