The Zwarte Schaar is a beautiful meander of the IJssel. In 1954, this 6 kilometer long bend was partly cut off from the IJssel. The result is a nature reserve full of small islands, some small beaches, many birds and recreationists on boats.

The windmill, originating from Follega, Lemsterland, Friesland, is a so-called Spinnekopmolen. This was used to drain a polder. The mill consists of the head (upper house) with which the sail cross can be turned. From the head, the kingpin runs through a hollow tube to the lower tower where the transmission to the screw is located. The mill is named after its place of origin in the province of Friesland. The unique thing about this windmill is that it was built to allow the watermill to function. (https://www.keppelsemolens.nl/spinnekopmolen/)
