There is only one lock on the ESK. It is the largest economy lock in the world because it collects 70% of the lock water in 8 conservation basins during the valley lock and reuses it during the mountain lock without pumping.

The Oldenstädter See is there "for everyone": On the extensive natural beach, sun worshippers and water lovers alike will get their money's worth. Within a designated area in the southwest of the lake, dogs can also enjoy the cool water. A water area is also reserved for surfers and operators of smaller, non-motorized boats. Biotopes offer a retreat for plants and animals. A beautiful circular path has been laid out around the lake for relaxing walks with a view of the water.
