Herbergh ’t IJsselmeer is situated in a quiet spot directly on the dike at the IJsselmeer and breathes the atmosphere of a classic sailor’s inn. From the terrace or the nearby walking and cycling paths you have a wide view over the water and you can see the sails of passing boats on the horizon. The Overhaal is an important industrial monument, because of the history of the Broekerhaven. In the 17th century, barges from the polder were already being transported to this harbour on the Zuider Zee. At that time, this was done with wheels over a bank. This facility was important for trading and transporting the supply of vegetables to Amsterdam and to the countries along the Baltic Sea (Scandinavian countries). There was great competition with the harbour in Enkhuizen. The electrical installation for this boat lift was made in 1923 and served for a long time for the transfer of vegetables from the polder. When trading took place via auctions and transport was more by freight train (from the headlands at the station in Bovenkarspel) and by road freight, the Overhaal eventually fell into disrepair in the second half of the previous century. In 1993, the municipality of Stede Broec, with the help of a government subsidy, completely restored the Overhaal, including the
