Next to the intersection of Harreweg and Veenweg (after 50 meters from Veenweg, Oostveenseweg follows) stands De Engelenhoek, the Verkade family's dairy farm. According to the farmer's wife, this Schiedam farm dates back to 1814 and has a rich history. Mrs. Verkade proudly explains that the farm is distinguished by its traditional colors: corn yellow and laurel green. That alone would be a reason for it to be a Komoot Highlight, but that's certainly not the only thing De Engelenhoek has to offer.

De Plantage is a neighborhood in Schiedam situated around the oldest city park in the Netherlands. A historic city park that will have entered its 256th year in 2025. The park was laid out in 1767 by then city architect Arij van Bol’es. At the time, this area was a green zone on the edge of the city. Wealthy people built their houses there with spacious gardens and gazebos on the water. Over time, a number of companies also settled in De Plantage. In 2013, the northern part of De Plantage, called the “Kop van het Park”, was redesigned. With the new redesign, De Plantage also got a clear entrance again; this invites visitors to enter the park to walk, picnic and enjoy. Source: https://www.plantagebewoners.nl/het-mooiste-park

There is such a special tree in the Plantage. This world tree is an Oriental Plane and is called “De Plantage Plataan” because of its location in the park. This plantain was planted around 1870. The world tree community of the Plantage, together with the tree protector, prevents the tree from being damaged.

On sunny days, barbecues are a popular pastime in Prinses Beatrix Park. Starting Saturday, July 13, 2024, barbecues will no longer be permitted in certain parts of Prinses Beatrix Park. The new rules are intended to prevent nuisance and to keep the park clean, safe, and livable for everyone. The areas where barbecues are permitted have been equipped with containers and waste bins for barbecue coals. This allows visitors to properly dispose of their waste afterward, preventing litter and pollution. Rules signs in the fields inform visitors how to use the parks. On busy days, waste coaches are available to explain the rules. Information about what is and isn't allowed can also be found at: https://www.schiedam.nl/nieuws/nieuwe-regels-voor-barbecueen
