Tips from the Community

Seenland Oder-Spree
May 18, 2026, Haus des Gastes & Tourist Information Scharmützelsee

The Haus des Gastes was built between 1998 and 2000 as the new town center. The construction costs were around 2.2 million DM, of which 1.5 million DM were subsidies from the state of Brandenburg, the federal government, and the EU. Since July 2000, the building has housed the community library, which was previously a mobile library. Until 2019, the Scharmützelsee Aquarium with five large aquariums was located on the ground floor. Today, it houses the Tourist Information with an expanded range of services. The Scharmützelsee e.V. tourism association is also represented in the building. On the upper floor, there are event rooms, which were also used for cultural events and for children's and youth work for a long time, as well as a gallery for changing exhibitions. At the opening, works by local artist Werner Voigt were on display. In 2021, the library was extensively renovated and reopened. Since then, under the motto "Books and more," it has offered a variety of attractions – without registration requirements. The Haus des Gastes is a central meeting point for locals and visitors and an important place for culture, education, and tourism in Wendisch Rietz.

The dog beach is a good idea. Furthermore, it is fenced, so nothing can happen.

Almost directly along the water through the forest, but also quite rooty in short sections.

I discovered a small Christmas gnome shrine while jogging, seemingly dressed in seasonal attire. On my next walk, I'll take a closer look at the "shrine," or whatever the correct term is. A real eye-catcher! In the middle of the woods, a wonderful surprise.

There are numerous public bathing areas on Scharmützelsee, Storkower See and other forest lakes that invite you to swim, row or sail. If you are active in the summer, you should pack your bathing suit, as you can take a refreshing dip at all accessible places, and for fun regardless of the weather, the Schwapp leisure pool and the SaarowTherme offer relaxation and well-being.
