Tips from the Community

Andrea und Huskys 🐺
May 10, 2026, Erlebnisbergwerk Kupferberg Visitor Center

The visitor mine, newly opened in 2015, and the older mining museum complement each other with the intention of presenting "old" mining in Kupferberg to visitors. Kupferberg, with its town charter since 1326, would not exist without its namesake ore. The exhibition aims to show the geological and historical conditions of its founding and rise, but also to point out the mining technical conditions. The mine is always open on the last Sunday of the month. Guided tours are offered at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.

From the point of this highlight, you can only glimpse the tower from below and little of the castle building. It is well overgrown.

The Peterlesstein is a fascinating natural monument. The 589-meter-high mountain consists of serpentinite rock with magnetite inclusions, which are said to make compass needles go haywire here. However, our compass showed the cardinal directions normally, even though we tried at different spots.

A nice stopover with a view of the water. Since the county road runs right past, you can hear the traffic now and then, but the rest stop is great for a quick break.

Perfect place for a cozy break. The inn impresses with regional cuisine, especially the fresh trout from its own breeding and Angus beef from the surrounding area. In good weather, you can enjoy sitting on the sun terrace.

A very nice hike with a small monastery that can also be visited.

Kupferberg is a mining town. Next to the museum, the soccer field collapsed a few years ago due to old tunnels and was permanently closed.
