Kermit
September 18, 2023, St. Margaretha in Issing

There is evidence of a parish in Issing since 1332. The late Gothic predecessor building from 1517 was repeatedly described by the parishioners between 1642 and 1715 as old, small and in a dilapidated condition. The connection to the town of Vilgertshofen was fatefully close; pilgrimages flourished there in 1674. In 1705, against the will of the Issingen parish population, the parish seat was moved to the pilgrimage church. In the years from 1716 to 1717, the new branch church was finally built by the Wessobrunn monastery architect Joseph Schmuzer, but the furnishings took until 1736, so that the church could only be consecrated on July 13, 1736. An Altötting chapel, donated by the local innkeeper in 1729 and built by Leonhard Möhringer from Landsberg, had to be demolished again in 1740 at the behest of the Wessobrunn monastery, which probably feared that the pilgrimage to Vilgertshofen would be impaired. It was not until 1777, under Abbot Engelbert Göggel, that the court painter Johann Baptist Baader, who came from Lechmühlen, was commissioned to paint the entire church (in the rococo style). As a result of secularization, the state stopped the Vilgertshofen pilgrimage and proposed demolishing the church and using the building materials to build a new rectory in Issing. Luckily, this didn't happen because it was completely achieved by the people of Issingen taking on the construction burden. In the 19th century, Issing temporarily belonged to Thaining as a parish, and around 1900 St. Margaretha finally became a parish church again. Interior renovations took place in 1860/70, 1933, 1957 and 1996 to 2002 as well as exterior renovations in 1970 and 2009/10 (Wikipedia).

The root path at the Windachspeicher is actually recommendable but certainly not located in the village of Hofstetten. It begins at the end of the sunbathing lawn at the Windachspeicher - parking lot below the dam wall; and leads south of the pond then in the Wälchen, later along it in the direction of Obermühlhausen.
