The Blutseemoor near Kist is a nature reserve in the Irtenberger Forest, which is part of the fauna-flora-habitat areas (FFH). It is known for its swinging lawn, which is the largest in Lower Franconia and floats on an underground body of water. The name Blutsee comes from a type of algae that sometimes turns the water red. The moor is not allowed to be entered as it is life-threatening.

Beautiful, quiet place in the middle of the forest. A bench invites you to linger. You should take the path around the moor on foot and be considerate of nature.

The Blutsee-Moor is a protected area designated in 1941. With an area of around 5.8 hectares, it offers the largest swinging lawn in Lower Franconia and a path around the blood lake that gives it its name, which is popular with walkers. It is a fen. The name goes back to a special type of red protozoa that occasionally multiplies en masse in the blood lake, making the lake appear more or less blood-red.

Yesterday it was foggy and most of the trees are still leafy. The first yellow leaves on the trees shone between the green that you thought the sun was coming through. Still, it was a typical foggy mood. Apart from a photographer, I had the whole area to myself. So I circled the blood lake, partly looked for the path, climbed over fallen tree trunks and hopped over tree roots. It was a great atmosphere here. Judging by the pictures of other Komootler, there was relatively little water in the lake that day. Should I be in the area again at a different time of the year or in different weather, I will definitely come back here again. I liked it!

Like in the Everglades with a bit of imagination 😉

Also a worthwhile tour around February. When the light falls through the bare trees, it creates a special effect.

The Blutsee Moor is a nature reserve and is located near the Kleinrinderfelder district Limbach. From a former lake slowly creates a fen. In Bavaria, it is the only fen in this stage.
