A short detour is well worth it – the Piske observation tower offers a magnificent panoramic view over the wild and romantic Vils Valley. From here, the view opens up to the river landscape before the tour continues towards the Rottal Valley, the Bavarian Forest, and the Bohemian Forest adventure region. www.passauer-land.de

Starting your tour in Aldersbach is doubly rewarding: The traditional monastery brewery, complete with a demonstration brewery and museum, brings the beer history of Lower Bavaria and Bohemia to life. Afterwards, several local inns await, offering freshly tapped Aldersbacher beer and a cozy atmosphere. Those wishing to extend their stay after the tour can even spend the night at the monastery itself – and the magnificent Asam Church next door is a highlight in its own right. www.aldersbacher.de

The present parish church was built in 1900, after the previous church was closed in 1898 due to dilapidation and – with the exception of the tower – demolished.

The tower offers a beautiful view of the Vilsauen near Mattenham. One of the cycling and hiking trails leads past here, some of which is paved.

Super nice bike path, sometimes you don't see that much of the Vils, but the path is nice to ride and varied. Compared to the Danube before, the Vils and the cycle path offer a lot to look at. Absolute driving recommendation for the route along the Vils!
