Tips from the Community

April 2, 2026, Schönste Weinsicht Württemberg – Hessigheimer Felsengärten

The Hessigheim Rock Gardens (Hessigheimer Felsengärten) are among the most spectacular landscapes in the Neckar Valley. The steeply rising Muschelkalk rocks, the terraced vineyards, and the view of the distinctive Neckar loop make the area a true natural highlight. Narrow paths run between the rocks, repeatedly opening up impressive views – sometimes deep down to the river, sometimes over the vineyards all the way to Hessigheim. The area is simultaneously a nature reserve and a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and nature fans. A visit is worthwhile in every season: in spring, the vegetation blooms on the rock faces; in summer, the limestone rocks shine brightly; and in autumn, the vineyards turn golden.

The Siggi winery is located on the outskirts of Hessigheim, in the heart of the middle Neckar valley. The steep shell limestone terraces around the Neckar loop shape the wines of the family business – handcrafted, strong in character, and shaped by the sparse, sunny steep slopes.

In Hessigheim in Kirchgasse, on the edge of the old town center, our church from the 15th century rises above the Neckar. The oldest documentary mention dates back to the year 1150 (Codex Hirsau: donation of the church by Erkinbert von Dunckendorff to the Hirsau Monastery). Earlier church buildings could, however, date back to the eighth century; the village is mentioned for the first time in 774. Recent excavations in the village brought a large Alamannic-Frankish burial ground to light. After the framework of the belfry including the roof truss was destroyed in 1756 (by a hurricane?) and replaced by a solid structure and a new roof, the number 1772 mentioned above probably refers to the expansion of the nave to the west to its current size.
