"continual slur on Irish caving" It's actually only a few hundred metres is accessible and it's total length is thought to be 2km. No where near the longest cave in Ireland. Consider a trip in only if well equipped with a good light and helmet. Alternatively/also consider visiting McKenzies back lounge just down the road. A much drier watering hole. ;)

Enjoy a stroll through this gorgeous landscape belonging to the Belmore Uplands. The area is known for it's fascinating wildlife, the most intriguing being the Irish Hare. You'll know if you've spotted a hare over a rabbit because of their black-tipped ears and long black legs.

Pollnagollum Cave (meaning Hole of the Dove) is the longest cave system in Ireland. The cave system is complex and fascinating and is fed by a tumbling waterfall that topples off a limestone cliff. Watch your stepping here as rocks can be unstable and slippery, and don't forget your camera for some awesome shots.

If you look closely you can spot the uncanny resemblance this rocky outcrop has with an elderly gentleman.

Meenameen Lough sits in the wonderful Lough Navar Forest. It is peaceful and quiet with plenty of tree cover, providing the perfect spot to take a break and take in this unspoilt landscape.

Fairly accessible but not wheelchair accessible. Would be very careful with small children as well

Even when you climb to the lookout point, you always have great views of the lake - and on the way several benches invite you to take a break during the ascent.

Yes, there are several options perfect for a family outing or if you're new to hiking. About half of the trails in the area are rated as easy. A great choice is the Belmore Forest loop via Pollnagollum Cave, which follows a well-defined 3.8-mile (6.1 km) track through the woods.
Dogs are generally welcome on the trails in the region. However, you'll be hiking through areas with sensitive habitats and potential livestock. Always keep your dog under control, and be prepared to put them on a leash, especially around the cliff edges and farmland.
Yes, many routes are designed as loops so you can end your walk where you started. For a shorter but scenic circular hike, consider the Cliffs of Magho loop. It's a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) trail that offers fantastic views without requiring you to backtrack.
The region is best known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and expansive views over the nearby loughs. Most of the popular trailheads, particularly for routes around the Cliffs of Magho and Belmore Forest, have designated parking areas. It's always a good idea to arrive early on weekends and holidays, as these spots can fill up quickly.
Accessing the trailheads via public transport can be challenging, as many are in rural locations away from main bus routes. Driving is the most reliable way to reach the start of most hikes in this area. We recommend checking local bus schedules in advance if you plan to travel without a car.
