Open and busy when I passed middle of a Friday afternoon in May 2026. They have a pilgrim stamp, and apart from the cafe also a well-stocked (if ££) shop, you could get the makings of a meal or 2 here instead of/as well as enjoying either a snack (as I did) or a full meal.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, staff were absolutely wonderful. They were serving Sunday roasts but also had other food available, the soup was delicious and helped us complete our ride!

The village was decorated for Halloween. Many people had put a great deal of effort oi to scarecrows.

I can recommend buying an ice cream at the near by shop & eating it on the bench seat here.

Nice way of getting to silchester, road surface wasn’t great if coming from the Bramley Road, but once you clear the first few houses and start the climb it starts to improve.

This is a rewarding climb with fantastic views at the summit. Just take care on the way up and down as some sections are quite narrow.
