An area of extensive chalk grassland and an important nature reserve and SSSI, Butser Hill is the highest point on the South Downs Way national trail. A great place to spot butterflies and wildflowers in summer, it's also a fascinating site for archaeologists, with Iron Age banks and ditches visible on its slopes. From the hill, or nearby Queen Elizabeth Country Park, you can explore the fine, runnable trails of the South Downs Way in either direction.
