Typical Surrey hills and gentle bends along this country lane brought us to this idyllic turn in the road by the Old Lodge and we had had to stop and take in the moment. No cars, just a waddling of wild ducks resting casually by this pond. Take the Itching Common Road from Oxted to Crockham Hill and you'll find some hidden gems.

Have you ever seen a hotel for bugs? If you look closely, you'll spot this curious bug hotel on the side of the path. I'm not sure how many stars it has though...

A stream was damned to create the Furnace Pond as a means to power the huge hammer at John Browne's forge. A gun foundry on such a huge scale that its flames could be seen from 10 miles away.

The swimming spot isnโt actually here below the bridge if you want to go to it follow the bike touring highlight on the map and follow that. Plus itโs a great place to go itโs amazing and worth a detour. The field is easily cycleable as itโs short and very wide
