Komoot suggested I turn left here but I found it is a private road and it is gated. Just to warn others who may rely on that segment to get anywhere.

Tucked just behind the shops on Chantry lane, the Gothic Medieval church of St Lawrence provides an area of calm reflection away from the bustle of town. The ancient grounds (dating back to at least 921 AD) are well maintained and contain a number of old trees, the Yew being especially old. Horse and more recently greyhound racing at the famous Towcester racecourse, you can glimpse the tracks and main building through the main gates and as you ride around the wall surrounding the grounds. Worth checking if there are any events running during your visit as the grounds host a number of events throughout the year.

Nestled behind the main shopping street in Towcester is this unassuming mound of historic earth. Now turned into a small park area with a spiral path to the top you can get views over the rooftops of the town centre. Bury Mount and Water Meadows park (just a couple of minutes North East by bike), won the restoration category at the Museums and Heritage Awards 2011 beating Westminister Abbey which came second. The mount is the restored remains of what is thought to be a 12th century motte and bailey fortification.
