The Walhalla Railway, popularly known as the "Walhallabockerl," was a narrow-gauge railway from Regensburg-Stadtamhof via Donaustauf to Wörth an der Donau. It opened in 1889 and operated for passenger traffic until 1968; freight traffic ended in 1960. The approximately 23.4-kilometer-long line served not only freight transport but also visitors to the nearby Walhalla Temple. The railway was meter-gauge and operated by Class 99.25 steam locomotives. Today, a memorial in Regensburg-Stadtamhof commemorates the Walhalla Railway, including an exhibit of an original locomotive that illustrates the technology and history of this special railway line.
