Pallets, ice cubes, glasses, and drinks were lugged by the inventor Martin with a few friends and helpers almost 21 years ago into the bathing bay in Hüde. And there it stood, the first Beach Bar at Dümmer See. Bar dü Mar. Only cocktails were sold; those who wanted coffee were kindly sent elsewhere. Long, long ago... Feet in the sand or behind a warm wall, a fine restaurant with regional products, and the chill beach bar with cocktails and homemade drinks. Burgers, salad, or the finest barbecue, wine, and delicious coffee with a piece of fresh cake, ice cream, chill-out areas, live acts, private parties, corporate incentives, Christmas parties, and always the most beautiful sunset at the Dümmer and simply "Stimmung dü Mar". In the middle of the beautiful landscape along the sculpture trail are the impressive Fibonacci Cubes by artist Petra Paffenholz. If you don't know the background, you'll inevitably wonder what their meaning is. An information panel next to the artwork will give you the answer. The Fibonacci Cubes are the artist's take on the theme of infinity. The nine permeable cubes of different sizes stand in the expansive agricultural landscape. The dimensions of the cubes are derived from the Fibonacci series. The Fibonacci sequence is the infinite sequence of natural numbers that begins with two times the number 1, and in which each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. In modern notation, this sequence is additionally given a leading number 0: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55... The numbers contained therein are called Fibonacci numbers. The sequence is named after Leonardo Fibonacci, who used it to describe the growth of a rabbit population as early as 1202. However, the sequence was already known in ancient times to both the Greeks and the Indians. Further research has shown that the Fibonacci sequence also describes numerous other growth processes in nature. It seems as if it is a kind of growth pattern in nature. Highly interesting and initially easy to follow, but increasingly difficult to understand the deeper you delve into this subject and the associated mathematical formulas. With around 1,000 seats, St. Gertrud is one of the largest churches in the Vechta district for the largest parish in the Oldenburg part of the Münster diocese. It is the city's landmark in the middle of the center on Rixheimer Platz and dominates the townscape not only because of its size but also because of its construction and location. Its towers are visible from afar. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1221, St. Gertrud has been known as the church's patron saint since the 15th century. The current church was built in the 19th century. Inside, St. Gertrud houses works by the Lohne artists Heinrich Klingenberg and Luzie Uptmoor. The richly decorated high altar with folding wings is particularly impressive. In front of the church you will find the St. Gertrud fountain: erected in 1993 by the Lohne-born artist Karl-Josef Dierkes. It depicts the abbess St. Gertrude with her three protective functions: for gardeners, the poor and sick, and travelers and pilgrims.
