Rondvassbu is the DNT cabin in the very heart of the Rondane National Park and is deservedly popular. Originally built in 1903, the facility has seen many renovations in its time and provides unrivalled access to Rondane’s major peaks and trails. If you plan to camp nearby, you can still pay for the use of the facilities and purchase food.

Café Gjendeosen enjoys an enviable spot by the ferry terminal looking across Gjende lake. It's a nice place to grab a drink before taking the ferry. A coffee here tastes even better if you've just completed the Besseggen Ridge, a Norwegian classic!

At 5,718 feet (1,743 m), Veslfjellet is the highest point on the famous Besseggen Ridge. In contrast to some of the narrower sections on the route, the summit is relatively broad but the views are still spectacular.

Always assess the specific route details and your family's experience level.
Norway generally embraces the concept of 'friluftsliv' (open-air life), and many trails are dog-friendly. You can usually pitch a tent for one or two nights in uncultivated land, as long as you are at least 150 meters from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. Within national parks, specific rules may apply, and you should always practice Leave No Trace principles, taking all rubbish with you and respecting nature and wildlife.
