The Cordingen Mill is a former watermill with a mill yard (miller's house and bakehouse) and ponds, located in the Warnau Valley between Cordingen and Benefeld (part of the town of Walsrode) in the southwestern Lüneburg Heath. The mill was first documented in 1661. Restored in the 1980s by the municipality of Bomlitz, the complex is considered one of the most valuable historical buildings in the Heidekreis district. The mill, built in 1810, operated until the 1950s. Today, the mill building is used for civil weddings by the town of Walsrode and is also available for private events. The miller's house contains an exhibition of documents and manuscripts about and by Arno Schmidt. The writer lived with his wife on the then fully operational mill yard from 1945 to 1950. His first post-war stories, Enthymesis, Gadir, Leviathan, and Brand's Heath, were written here. The Lower Saxony Mill Route passes by the Cording Mill. The rustic-looking mill grounds are very scenic due to their location in the narrowest section of the Warnau Valley, which is almost 20 meters below the surface. It is also one of the starting points for the Eibia-Lohheide recreation area via the Arno Schmidt Trail. Following the steep bank of the Warnau, you can also reach the Bomlitz Archaeological Trail from here. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordinger_M%C3%BChle
