Flying over the cobblestones and seeing the finish line pass under your front wheel where many greats have gone before you doesn't affect you then you better stop cycling or go ride along the canal.

This war memorial, a M108 Howitzer, commemorates the fallen soldiers who died during the Battle of the Leie. (24 - 26 May 1940, WW2). The first superstructure, M109 Howitzer, was donated in 1997 by the Sixth Artillery Regiment for the 30th anniversary of the connection with the city of Waregem. In 2008, during the celebration of V-Day, a complete M108 Howitzer was donated by the artillery department from Brasschaat. This confirmed the 40th anniversary of connection. During the construction of the new bridge over the Leie a few years ago, the artillery vehicle was temporarily moved. This armoured vehicle can be admired on the border of Ooigem and Desselgem, on the Desselgem side of the new Munken Bridge.

Special to suddenly see a tank along the Leie, but the sign next to it makes a lot clear.
