The parish church of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Lombeek is a pearl of Brabant early Gothic. The mini-cathedral is a landmark in the landscape.

The white spheres are actually inflatable balloons made of Kevlar and are meant to protect the satellites. Kevlar consists of arimids, fibers that form a group of polymers. This makes the spheres heat-resistant and ensures they have high tensile strength. Kevlar is also used in bulletproof vests, among other things. Want to know more? The Woestijnkapel or Chapel of the Holy Cross is located on the Woestijnstraat in Strijland, a hamlet of Gooik. A chapel was built on this site in the 13th century, when a shepherd's dogs found a yellow copper crucifix while digging in the ground. The cross, which must have been made around 1280, quickly became the subject of veneration as a pilgrimage site for pilgrims who came to the Woestijn. The current chapel, however, was only built in 1600, and the unvaulted portal was added in 1713. Inside is a baroque portico altar from 1635 with two Corinthian columns. The chapel has been protected as a monument since 1942. Source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/erfgoed/4952793498

The original name for the mill is the Hertboommolen. The name refers to the large open meadow to which the mill is adjacent. In the census book from 1391, the oldest mention of the windmill, it says "1 bunre lant op hertboem byden wintmolen". Want to know more about the legends, stories, myths of the Ttragische mill? The NATO Satcom Site in Leerbeek, located on the Kesterheide heath, is one of the largest NATO communications centers in Europe. The base has undergone an upgrade over the past four years, with the familiar white sphere receiving three additional spheres and an upgrade itself. This upgrade was necessary to make the new NATO base one of the largest communications centers in Europe. The total cost of this upgrade was 15 million euros. Only four other locations in Europe still have such a base: in Italy, Turkey, and Greece. The base in Leerbeek and the one in Verona, Italy, are the largest, each with four spheres. The white spheres are actually inflatable Kevlar balloons that protect the satellites.
