It is an ancient artifact composed of two buildings, now disused, related to the Messina city aqueduct. It is located right at the end of the first part of the Sentiero della Nibbiata, the most challenging part as it is uphill, where it joins the cart track that leads, to the right towards the Rifugio Lupo and to the left towards the Piano and the Rifugio san Calorio. The interest of the artifact derives from the fact that it represents an ancient work of hydraulic engineering. This "pairs up", let's say, with another small shed located below, in the stream, right at the beginning of the same path. Probably down below the water was captured from the stream and then brought up, using hydraulic pumps, to the artifact from where it was then distributed.

Very nice refuge, immersed in the green woods on the Ionian side of the Peloritani, just above the Messina hamlet of Briga Superiore, which can be reached by going up the stream and then on a dirt road.
