Dorf Tirol, known for its rich history, is closely associated with Tirol Castle, which gave the region its name and played a central role in the area's development. Historical Development Origins: The history of Dorf Tirol dates back to the 12th century. Around 1120, Tirol Castle was built, serving as the seat of the Counts of Vinschgau. These counts called themselves the Counts of Tirol from 1140 onwards, marking the first documented mention of the village in 1149. Founding of the State of Tirol: In 1248, the State of Tirol was officially proclaimed, representing a significant turning point in history. From this point on, the area was no longer referred to as "land in the mountains" but as "dominium comitis Tyrolis". Significant Events: In 1347, Tirol Castle was besieged by King Charles of Bohemia, but Countess Margaret Maultasch offered strong resistance. The castle later became the seat of the regional governor but lost its importance when the residence was moved to Innsbruck.
