Lot of traffic there, because of a big road construction project nearby. Better to avoid a while, until the main project is finished...check on google maps before you want to explore - written: 31. Mars 2026.

Skien is one of Norway's oldest cities, dating back to the Middle Ages. It's famously the birthplace of renowned playwright Henrik Ibsen, and you can explore his childhood home, now a museum. Skien is also known as the starting point of the scenic Telemark Canal, a historic waterway with a spectacular system of locks. Historically a center for seafaring and timber exports, it now boasts a blend of urban life with pedestrian streets, green spaces, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Beware. This parking lot will cost you an arm and a leg! We were there at 8:30…. Parking until 12:00 was 300 kroner, and after 12:00 another 300. No middle ground, no way to pay for the actual time you are parked there. Paid 600, but I am absolutely furious. What a dirty rip-off!

There is a free parking spot across from the Hytta. Many locals park here too. Save yourself the parking fees for the large lot.
