Castello Bonomi is a splendid “chateau” owned by the Paladin family located on the slopes of Monte Orfano, a wonderful natural amphitheater in the southernmost area of Franciacorta. The winery takes its name from the late nineteenth-century Art Nouveau building that serves as its headquarters and which is located in the middle of an enchanting terraced garden.

The first settlements on the Franciacorta hills surrounding the city date back to the first millennium BC. More certain settlements are those of the Cenomani Gauls who settled in the area in the 6th century BC. Remains of these settlements have been found on Monte Orfano, on which, according to a legend, a small temple dedicated to the Sun god was built. After the expulsion of the Cenomane population by the Romans in the first century BC, Franciacorta grew in importance and developed around the castrum of Rovato. With the fall of the Roman Empire, Rovato underwent a series of raids which ended in 568 AD. with the arrival of the Lombards. These, having converted to Christianity, renovated the Roman fortification present in the area of the current convent of the SS.
