DON'T BE SCARED AND DON'T HURT IT, IT IS NOT POISONOUS The rat snake (Hierophis viridiflavus) is a non-venomous snake belonging to the Colubridae family. It is widespread in southern Europe, particularly in peninsular Italy, the major islands and in some areas of southern France and Switzerland. The rat snake is easily recognizable by its slender body and its color that varies from black to olive green, often with yellowish spots or stripes. It can reach a length of 120-150 cm, but some specimens can exceed 2 meters. Coloring can vary greatly. Young specimens tend to have a brown color with light spots, while adults can be black with metallic reflections, or green with yellowish stripes or spots. It lives in a variety of habitats, including woods, meadows, cultivated fields and rocky environments. It is often found near water, but can also adapt to drier areas. It feeds mainly on small mammals, birds, lizards and amphibians. It is an active predator that hunts both day and night. It is an agile and fast snake, known for its lively and sometimes aggressive temperament if disturbed. However, it does not pose a danger to humans as it is not poisonous. The rat snake is a protected species in many regions, as it plays an important role in the ecosystem, controlling populations of small animals and contributing to the maintenance of natural balance.

Inside the Millecampi Valley, in the territory of the Municipality of Codevigo in the Fogolana area, there are four recently built huts, which reproduce those characteristic of the Saccisica area. Of particular interest is the roof structure, faithful aesthetic and functional reproduction, built entirely with reed. The Fogolana area, adjacent to the Valley, represents the only outlet to the sea in the Province of Padua and an area of great environmental and naturalistic value.
