The church, a hall church that dominates the village center, was built in 1715. It is in the form of a typical Baroque village church – simple, rectangular, with a square tower at the west end. Inside the church is a three-sided gallery with an organ. The church is dominated by a hall church, which is a prominent feature of the village center.

Altenburg's market square is a historic site with many sights. The Renaissance town hall is imposing, and the Brethren Church is a jewel on Altenburg's main market square.

Old walls that cry out for investment!!! Otherwise, like so many buildings, it will probably be left to decay!😢

There was already a small parish church in Tegkwitz in 1254. Some remains of the Romanesque structure from this period can still be seen today, for example in window openings on the north side of the church. The church was dedicated to "Our Lady", i.e. Mary, the mother of Jesus. It became particularly famous for a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary, which made Tegkwitz a popular pilgrimage site for the entire area. As an incentive for pilgrims, the church received a papal indulgence in 1469, which the then Bishop of Naumburg confirmed in 1471. The bell tower was built after 1484 with the help of the income generated from this. The Gothic-style nave was built between 1518 and 1521. The image of the Virgin Mary, which made Tegkwitz famous, was located on the south side of the church, set into a pillar. The niche intended for it can still be seen today, while nothing is known about the whereabouts of the image. During the GDR era, the church fell into very poor condition. Since 1995, it has been continuously restored thanks to great commitment from the village.
