Pratomagno Summit Cross

Highlight • Summit

A seemingly gigantic summit cross crowns the Pratomagno. But despite its enormous mass, the cross does not appear overwhelming; in fact, due to the steel truss construction (the most famous example of which is the Eiffel Tower in Paris), it appears almost delicate.
The inauguration took place in 1928; the idea for its construction had come up two years earlier as part of the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. In the almost 100 years of its existence, the cross has required repairs/maintenance several times, and so it is to be hoped that it will continue to crown the summit and serve as a widely visible sign of blessing for the country and its people.

Ponte Buriano

Highlight • Bridge

Take a ride in May. Generally during the second weekend the descent of the craziest Arno in the world takes place: the Spollinata sull'Arno, the descent of the river from Giovi to Ponte Buriano now in its 41st edition. Space for all types of alluvial vessels, for canoes and rubber boats and for any strictly non-motorized vessel. The only rule, any type of engine is excluded and only the power of human energy is allowed to push the boat downstream. The crazy descent of the Arno river departing from Giovi and arriving at Ponte Buriano is a folkloric competition that takes place as usual with alluvial means.

The Valle dell'Inferno e Bandella nature reserve is a protected natural area in Tuscany located along the Valdarno stretch of the Arno. The Nature Reserve develops in the basin of the ENEL hydroelectric power plant in Levane. The Reserve is characterized by a stretch of the Arno River that flows placidly in the Valle dell'Inferno, with depths that vary between 5 and 15 meters and the Bandella Bend, a marshy area, formed in the valley floor of the Ascione Torrent and on the edges of the lake originated from the construction of the dam at the end of the 1950s for the production of electricity.
This area subsequently became populated with the fauna and flora typical of wetlands and the abundant presence of fish, amphibians and invertebrates attracted species of birds which chose this oasis for their reproduction. But at the same time, the lake has not erased the typical flora and fauna that characterized the valley.

Croce del Pratomagno

Highlight • Monument

The Croce del Pratomagno is a monument that was inaugurated on September 2, 1928: it is a large modular iron cross that dominates the whole massif and is visible even from a great distance. In November 1966, due to bad weather, the upper part collapsed and was later relocated in 1969; on 27 July 2013, the inauguration of the new restoration and redevelopment of the site was carried out by the Construction Service of the Province of Arezzo.

Arno…Dante Alighieri mentions the Arno River in several works, particularly in the Divine Comedy, where, in Canto XIV of Purgatory, he describes the river as "a little river that rises in Falterona"

Believed to be the bridge in the background of DaVinci's Mona Lisa painting. Another antique bridge considered to be the authentic reference is Ponte Romito, toward Laterina (not too far away), and worth the ride to see..

You simply have to go here if you are in the area. What a great organic farm. We stayed one night in the camper parking lot with our motorhome. However, you have to reserve it in advance. You should also reserve your snack or dinner in advance. You can shop at any time in the farm shop and wine cellar and try some of the products. There are free tours of the Fattoria twice a day. You should definitely go on one of these. You learn a lot of interesting information about how the products are made and of course you can also try them.
