In Castiglion Fiorentino, just outside the city walls, stands the Church of the Madonna della Consolazione. Its history stems from a sacred image of the Madonna and Child, attributed to Luca Signorelli, once kept in a tabernacle along the road. Tradition holds that Eleonora di Toledo, wife of Cosimo I de' Medici, regained her sight by praying before that image. In gratitude, she financed the construction of the church, which began in 1565 and was completed only decades later. Inside, in a side chapel, the original fresco of the Madonna is still preserved.

The hermitage "Le Celle" is a Franciscan hermitage located near the Tuscan town of Cortona in the province of Arezzo. This monastery was founded in 1211 by none other than Francis of Assisi (1181 or 1182 – October 3, 1226). Here, Francis built his "cella" (chapel); this monastic cell and the oratory of his first companions can still be visited today. In 1226, the year of his death, he is said to have dictated one of his most valuable writings, his "Testament," here, in which the already blind and greatly weakened Francis summarized his entire spiritual experience.

The Celle hermitage in Cortona is closely linked to Saint Francis of Assisi. Founded in 1211, it was one of the first spiritual refuges of the saint, who used it as a place of prayer and contemplation. Located in an isolated valley near Cortona, the hermitage offers an environment of peace and contemplation, ideal for meditation. Saint Francis was known for his predilection for nature and simplicity, therefore he found in the Celle a perfect place to live according to his ideals of poverty and humility. It is one of the most beautiful places in Cortona! If you pass through here don't forget to pay a visit. It can be reached on foot via the CAI 563 path which starts from the valley and crosses the woods.

On the slopes of the village stood, in the Middle Ages, a small Majesty that housed an image of the Madonna with Child traditionally attributed to Luca Signorelli. Eleonora di Toledo, wife of Cosimo I de' Medici, regained her sight by praying in front of the tabernacle and made a significant sum of money available for the construction of a temple in homage to the miraculous image. The first stone of the Church of Madonna della Consolazione was laid in 1565, and the works continued for about forty years.
