Great view and well worth the slightly steep muddy ascent.

Always lovely to see these and walk up to the small hidden path at the top which takes you onto the road. If you are lucky sometimes you can hear the music students practising as you walk by.

I don’t usually like audio guides but this was really well done. Interesting castle history, but also the characters and stories. And the chapel at the end is an excellent finale. I spent almost an hour here. No cafe but you can get tea/coffee/ ice cream. A good stop!

Yes, Somerset has over 500 easy touring cycling routes. These often follow former railway paths or the flat expanses of the Somerset Levels, providing a gentle introduction to cycling in the region. While specific routes are not listed as 'easy' in the top 3, many shorter sections of the larger routes can be enjoyed by beginners.
For a more challenging ride, consider routes that venture into the Mendips or Quantocks. The Colliers Way and Three Castles Loop, for example, is rated as difficult with significant elevation gain. Another demanding option is the Strawberry Line and Chew Valley Lake Loop, which also features varied terrain and climbs.
Many touring cycling routes in Somerset are designed as loops, allowing you to start and finish in the same location. Examples include the Western Somerset Levels loop from Glastonbury, the Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Wells loop, and the Radstock & Mells loop from Shepton Mallet.
