The original parish church, dedicated to St. Martin, bishop of Tours, was built in the Lombard era, on the site where it is still visible today, near the neighboring parish church of S. Maria dell’Argine di Novi L., just outside the town of Pasturana, located one kilometer further north, near the current castle, where the geological edge of the Pleistocene terrace slopes sharply towards Basaluzzo. The temple of St. Martin underwent, over the centuries, substantial functional and architectural changes, clearly highlighted during the recent restoration and consolidation works promoted by the current Archpriest. In the Carolingian era, the church of St. Martin probably became the seat of a Benedictine monastic settlement. The entire territory of Pasturana, together with Novi L., Fresonara and others, was donated by Emperor Otto I and his wife Adelaide to the monastery of S. Salvatore in Pavia, around 970.
