In the middle of the 17th century, the inn located on a trade route and the farm belonging to the Rabis manor were first mentioned in a document. From 1850 onwards, the guesthouse "Luftschiff" existed here, which quickly became a popular excursion destination. After a fire in 1905, the restaurant was rebuilt and existed in this form until 1970. It subsequently came into the possession of the Carl Zeiss company, which had the guesthouse demolished in 1974. https://www.literaturland-thueringen.de/artikel/novalis-wanderweg-rundweg-von-drackendorf-nach-schloeben/burg-rabis-ehemaliges-luftschiff/

The Novalis Trail connects the Jena Romantic House with the town of Schlöben, 15 km southeast, and takes hikers on a journey into the early Romantic period. The Novalis Trail was recently adorned with sculptures specially designed for the trail by five artists: Barbara Magdalena Neuhäuser, Immanuel Kraus, Gernot Ehrsam, Frank Mühlfriedel, and Klaus Langmann, celebrating the poet and his time in the Jena region. https://www.visit-jena.de/aktiv-und-natur/wandern/novalisweg/

Old stone cross on the Wöllmisse... That's what I named the highlight when I created it. I have no idea what idiots here at Komoot keep thinking they have to rename highlights to completely meaningless names???

The SaaleHorizontale is a hiking trail that lives up to its name. It was rightly voted Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2023. A wonderful walk with stunning views and highlights. At times, you won't even notice how close you are to the city. A must-do hike!
