In 1904, the Kappeln - Süderbrarup railway line was opened. The town of Scheggerott experienced an economic boom thanks to the rail connection, as the Scheggerott train station developed into a regionally important transshipment point for agricultural products. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1972, followed by freight traffic in 2003. Since then, only the museum trains of the Angeln steam railway have stopped in Scheggerott when required.

"Clearing of the bearded man" is how the place name Scheggerott can be translated from Danish. The Angeln region used to belong to Denmark, but it is not known when exactly the village was founded. Some burial mounds in the north of the municipality date from the Neolithic or early Bronze Age and are evidence of early settlement in this area. Isolated farms and single-family homes characterize the image of the municipality.

What kind of highlight is that? Is the beetle stapled there or something?

There is also a small museum on the farm about the history of the village in the fishing area. The herb doctor Hinnerksen from the ZDF early evening series "The Country Doctor" also lived here.

You can find out more about the Marienkirche on this website https://www.kirchenkreis-schleswig-flensburg.de/gemeinden/kreisgebiet-schleswig-flensburg/arnis-und-rabenkirchen/unsere-kirchen/marienkirche-zu-rabenkirchen.html lots of information about this church. The origin goes back to the 12th century. Unfortunately, not much of it can be seen anymore because changes are made here again and again. But it's still worth a visit!
