The Chiesa di San Rocco e Convento dei Frati Cappuccini is one of the most historically significant religious complexes in Caccamo, closely tied to the presence of the Capuchin order in the town. The complex was founded in 1589, thanks to donations from the local population and prominent families. It was built on an area called Piano della Zafferana, donated to the Capuchin community. The original church was rebuilt and expanded in the 17th century, with the support of Duke Antonio Amato. In the 19th century, following the suppression of religious orders, the complex was confiscated but later reacquired by the friars in 1885, thanks to Father Michele Prinzi and the local community. The Church of S. Agostino is also called the Church of S. Isidoro . The church was built in the seventeenth century and underwent several alterations and renovations in the twentieth century. The sacred building was added to the monastery of the Augustinian Fathers . Traces of that period can be found in the painting of St Isidore Agricola by Matthias Stomer painted in 1641: the work came from the church of St Augustine and is today in the cathedral for security reasons. Stomer never signed his paintings, making an exception for the large canvas of St. Isidore , a testament to the value the painter himself placed on his work, believing it to be one of the fullest and most complete expressions of his artistic torment used to be. The whole, the variety of the figures, the precise relief of the details, the grandiose conception and harmony of the whole, make the painting one of Stomer's best works. Two feasts are celebrated in the church: one in honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel , whose devotion is widespread in the Augustinian Order, and the other to Saint Rita of Cascia, the Augustinian Saint of Impossible Miracles. The beautifully decorated and well-maintained single-aisled church has modest architecture with six side altars and the apse, with a disused organ and Empire-style stucco work. It contains a 17th-century painting of the Holy Trinity, the Virgin Mary, Saint Gregory Pope and the Holy Souls on the main altar. This church still houses the brotherhood, which consists of a large number of friars, almost all of them craftsmen. Two important paintings by the Caccamese painter Giovanni Bonomo adorn two altars : one depicts Jesus in the manger, the other the Eucharist with adoring saints. On the altar right center is a large crucifix , while another canvas depicting the Madonna del Carmine, whose harmonious tone of colors by an unknown author, but dating from the 18th century, could be attributed to Sebastiano Conca or someone who followed his style. On either side of the main entrance are two small bookcases , the top two panels of which are reproductions of paintings on wood. An internal staircase at the first altar on the right leads to a floor below that was used as a catacomb.
