What was once a hunting lodge palace like? You can see it at the court of Sala Baganza, nestled in the first hills of the Apennines, near the Baganza stream. It played a primary role in the defensive system of the castles of Parma: here lived counts and dukes for centuries, the Sanvitale, the Farnese, the Bourbon. The Rocca Sanvitale of Sala Baganza, in the province of Parma, is enriched by a large eighteenth-century garden enclosed by walls from the era. Inside, it preserves precious frescoes and stuccoes, settings where women of hearts, culture, and conspiracies spun destinies and plots. From the heroine Donella Rossi to the beautiful Barbara Sanseverino and her stepdaughter Eleonora, sung by Torquato Tasso, and then the controversial Maria Amalia of Habsburg-Lorraine and finally the Duchess of Parma Maria Luigia, a guest in the residence for a long period. Reopened to the public in 2003, it hosts cultural initiatives and concerts organized within the suggestive eighteenth-century Oratory of the Assunta.

The date of foundation of the first church is not known, however the dedication of the church of Coenzo to the cult of San Siro di Pavia attests that at the time of its construction the influence of Lombard culture still persisted in the territory. A parchment dated September 3, 1140 attests to the existence of a first building quidbquid iuris habeat in Ecclesia de Coencio. Bishop Obizzo, on October 5, 1197, issued a sentence to settle the dispute between the archpriest of Sorbolo and the abbess Ferlinda who claimed the right to appoint the clerics of the chapel of San Siro di Coenzo. The dispute went in favor of the abbess who, however, had to undertake to pay an annual tribute to the archpriest. The parchment Ratio decimarum of 1299 cites it as dependent on the parish of Sorbolo. It appears again in the 1354 estimate.

Take water here, because you won't find any for a while (there are no fountains, you have to get it from bars which are practically non-existent on the Cremona - Casalmaggiore route)
