I walked the stretch from Borghetto to Castiglione del Lago (8/9 km) and was a little disappointed that you only see the lake once and... watch out for cyclists coming in the opposite direction.

Magic nightride! Thnx for sharing this route. I started this ride anti clockwise 20.30hr in late June. Next to the great views over the lake at sunset it started to get dark when passing Liciano Niccone (So bring some good light with you) From there the last climb trough the forrest was pure magical. At both sides of the road the forest was full of fireflies. Quit some stunning experience!

Despite its name "the Great", Isola Maggiore is the second largest island of Lake Trasimeno, but the only one that hosts a small village near the port that is still inhabited. Completely covered by thick vegetation of olive, holm oak and cypress trees, it is a treasure trove of artistic and religious works that testify to its ancient history. The village consists of a cobbled main street lined with old houses. Among them stands out the pretty 14th-century house of the Capitano del Popolo, which can now be visited via the Proloco. At the end of the village is the church of San Salvatore, built in the 12th century, which contains inside parts of a polyptych by Sano di Pietro from the church of the Franciscan convent. The most interesting point not to be missed is the 13th-century church of San Michele Arcangelo. It is located on the highest point of the island and offers a charming 360-degree panoramic view of the lake, especially beautiful at sunset.

It is a beautiful village located on a promontory on the western shore of Lake Trasimeno. Already inhabited in Etruscan times and then by the Romans (when it was called Clusium Novum, meaning new Chiusi), it owes its name to the construction of the Lion Castle in the mid-1200s. In 1914 the seaplane base was built, which later became the site of the Royal Air Force fighter school. It is pleasant to get there from the cycle path, central to Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Chiusi. Beautiful roads for cycling, of various types.
