The marked route is not exactly the Via dei Mulini. The cycle path must be taken from Lido Riccio in Ortona, going up along the Arielli River to its source, crossing the territory of Tollo, Crecchio and arriving at Arielli, then descending back to Ortona along the Marrucina or Pescarese, or the same route in reverse along the river. During the Second World War, a gunpowder depot blew up and seriously damaged the facility. A subsequent landslide destroyed further parts. The facility was restored in 2001. Now it looks almost a bit too new, but the next few centuries will change that again :-)
