This small birdwatching station is located directly on the Hessian long-distance cycle path R4. The wetlands around Ranstadt are part of the over 10,700-hectare EU bird protection area "Wetterau". It is one of the most important breeding and resting grounds for water and meadow birds in all of Hesse. Without any equipment, you can observe the local birds here through a permanently installed pair of binoculars. With a bit of luck, you might spot a white stork, lapwing, snipe, or marsh harrier. Otherwise, the platform also serves as a small resting spot.

Nice way to accelerate, the art is just a side issue that you fly past.

As I recently found out, the beautiful beer garden “Orbes” has been permanently closed since last autumn. I also find that very unfortunate.

Today’s “Assenheim Castle” was built from a medieval moated castle in the 18th/19th century.
