A monument to a very special Riesling! - Unfortunately (as of 4/2026), the previous information board at this sculpture "Kastanienbusch" (artist: Johann Willsberger) is missing. - Therefore, here is the text from the former metal plaque: "We live in the age of wine. Never before have there been so many great wines as today. Never before has so much attention been paid to them. In word and image, they are celebrated as personalities, uniquely shaped by the soil they root in, by the climate, by the careful hand of the vintner. These wines tell stories, ignite the imagination. For artists, they are a source of inspiration. For the idea, for example, of dedicating a monument to the best growths: to erect a sculpture, shaped according to their aura, right where they belong. A monument to the seniors among the vines – they bring fullness and concentration to the wine. In the Kastanienbusch vineyard, Hansjörg Rebholz's vines root in a rare red, iron-rich soil with a lot of slate, formed 280 million years ago. Lined with chestnut groves, the crystal-clear, distinctively mineral Riesling grows here, which has long since become a legend."

Since 2019, a very beautiful seating area has stood here, on the path up to the Hohenberg, donated by the "Weinfreunde Birkweiler". Many thanks! - It's a nice place to rest, even if the view into the Rhine plain is (nowadays) a bit restricted.

This beautiful almond tree-lined avenue is also known as Gerhardt-Alleweldt-Weg. It was named after Prof. Dr. Gerhardt-Alleweldt, who very successfully headed the Geilweilerhof Institute for Grapevine Breeding from 1970 to 1995. "His breeding legacy includes the successful, fungus-resistant variety 'Regent'."
