Tips from the Community

Sandsteinklippe
March 8, 2026, Jüdischer Friedhof Plaue

Below the castle lies the Jewish cemetery of Plaue. Plaue actually had very few Jewish residents. However, Jews from Ilmenau and Arnstadt were also buried here. The cemetery was established in 1826. Only about 30 burials took place here, of which 25 gravestones remain. In 1938, the destruction of the cemetery was prevented by local residents.
