These little chapels fascinate me again and again because many of them have their own stories. They are available in different shapes and colors.

At the edge of the harbor basin, nicely out of the way, lies the Sippocampus beach bar. There you can get chilled drinks, coffee and small snacks. Between the stones, there are a few chill-out seats, and straw parasols. The owner paints a lot of stones 😊👍🏻

You'll find wet meadows and winding streams with minimal elevation changes. Most of the routes, 7 out of 8, are classified as easy, making the area accessible for various hikers.
Evros Delta National Park is a haven for wildlife, especially birds. It's a crucial stopover and wintering ground for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds, with over 325 species observed, including various swans, pelicans, egrets, and raptors. Beyond birds, you might spot around 40 species of mammals like wild cats, otters, and foxes, as well as numerous reptile and amphibian species.
Yes, the park offers several easy routes suitable for families. The generally flat terrain and minimal elevation make many trails accessible. An example is the Ferry to Samothraki loop from Αλεξανδρούπολη Λιμάνι, an easy 3.3-mile (5.4 km) trail that leads through coastal areas.
While the park is a natural area, specific regulations regarding dogs on trails can vary. It's always best to check with the Evros Delta National Park Management Unit or visitor center in Loutra Traianoupolis for the most current guidelines on bringing pets into the protected areas to ensure compliance and protect the delicate ecosystem.
The park offers several points of interest for visitors. You can explore the Evros Delta National Park itself, which is a significant natural monument. There's also a Restored Bridge and an Observation Tower for Birdwatching, both excellent spots to take in the expansive views and observe wildlife. Viewpoints from surrounding villages like Anthia and Loutra also offer sweeping panoramas.
The Evros Delta is particularly spectacular during the migratory bird seasons, typically autumn and spring, when hundreds of thousands of birds pass through or winter there. These seasons offer pleasant temperatures for hiking and the best opportunities for birdwatching. Summer can be hot, while winter, though colder, still provides unique wildlife viewing opportunities.
Yes, the park features several circular routes. For example, the Shrine of Saint Demetrius loop from Μαΐστρος is a popular 4.7-mile (7.5 km) trail that offers views of the delta's flat, watery landscape. Another option is the Greek Roadside Shrine loop from Alexandroupoli, an easy 4.4-mile (7.1 km) path traversing open areas.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 5.0 stars. While most trails in Evros Delta National Park are easy, there is at least one moderate option for those seeking a bit more distance. The Shrine of Saint Demetrius loop from Νέα Χηλή is an 8.6-kilometer (5.4 miles) route classified as moderate, offering a slightly longer exploration of the delta's landscapes.
Information on specific parking areas for trailheads can vary, so it's advisable to check with the visitor center for the most convenient spots. Public transport options directly into the heart of the park may be limited, making a personal vehicle often the most practical way to access various starting points for hikes.
Foreign visitors planning to explore certain areas, especially for birdwatching or ecotourism in military zones within the park, may need an entry permit. It is recommended to arrange this in advance through the Evros Delta National Park Management Unit to ensure smooth access to all desired locations.
