It's especially beautiful to explore in April and May, when it's not yet too hot, yet the sun is already shining warmly. The view from the citadel of the still snow-capped peaks of the Pindus Mountains is breathtaking. It's recommended to leave your car a little further away and walk towards the citadel and the old town, as parking is limited and the streets are narrow. Especially around Easter, it's busy, and the cafés and restaurants are full.

The capital of the Epirus IOANNINA is worth the trip for many reasons. Visiting the island deserves more time than I had available, unfortunately only an hour. The small traditional old town is an attraction in itself. Okay, there are souvenir shops. But where are they not? Aside from a number of several impressive Orthodox churches, the main one is the Ali Pasha Museum, which exists here because it was where he found refuge before he was caught and beheaded. I personally find the bays with the (fishing) boats very charming. What I found surprising was the discrepancy between very well-preserved and restored houses and facilities and completely dilapidated ones. Bottom line: definitely visit! For one hour. Or for a day.
