An important event for all of Bavaria in 1818 was the promulgation of the constitution by King Max I to his people. By royal decree, the Constitutional Charter was solemnly proclaimed to the head and foreman of the Bodenwöhr Mining and Metallurgical Office at 9:00 a.m. on June 13, 1818, in the Mining Office's premises, and the oath of allegiance to the Constitution was administered. To commemorate the 1818 Constitution, a 2-meter-high sandstone memorial stone bearing the year 1818 was erected in the "Hain" (grove) on the Schlossberg, roughly on the site where the old hammer-master's residence (the castle) once stood. This memorial stone was donated by the people of Bodenwöhr, probably only on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitution in 1843.
